[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), are pleased to announce Rob Guinn has been signed for the upcoming season. Head Coach Ray Edwards is very excited to have found great veteran leadership for his defense.
Guinn comes to the Scorpions with 410 professional games under his belt. The 6'1", 218-pounder spent the last two seasons in the United Hockey League (UHL) with the Fort Wayne Komets. He played nearly every game over the last two seasons, an important point according to Edwards.
"Rob is a hard working player. He understands his role as a leader on and off the ice," said Edwards. "I have high standards for my veterans, they have to be role models to the younger players, always work hard and really be an extension of me. Fans will see that in Rob."
It was not an easy process getting Guinn to commit to New Mexico. According to Edwards he was highly recruited by his old team and few CHL rivals as well.
"I was looking for a great town to play in as well as a great organization," said Guinn. "I was excited that Coach Edwards called me and am very excited to come to such a stable league and team."
Guinn's reputation is of solid defensive play and great movement of the puck. In his career the Ottawa, Ont. native has scored 208 points (39G, 169A) and collected 548 penalty minutes. It certainly did not hurt that Guinn and the Scorpions Director of Community Relations Randy Murphy are friends.
"Randy played a big role in me coming to the Scorpions," said Guinn. "Knowing the organization has such a class act as Murph working there shows great things. Not only was he a great player on the ice, he is a great guy as well."
