Former Jackals Defenseman Returns To The Beast

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today the signing of former Jackals defenseman Chris Shaw to a contract for the 2006-2007 season. He returns to Elmira as the 8th player signed by the Jackals for the upcoming campaign.

Jackals fans will remember Chris Shaw from two years ago when he was a rookie on the 2004-05 squad. Shaw now has two and a half seasons as a pro under his belt and some playoff experience as well. In 2005-06 Shaw played for the CHL's Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, recording 1 assist and 190 PIMs in 50 regular season games. Shaw appeared in 14 of his team's 15 post-season games, helping the Mudbugs reach the CHL Finals against the Laredo Bucks. The Surrey, British Columbia native had an assist and 37 PIMs during his 14 playoff games as his team lost in the Finals 4-games-to-1 to his new Jackals teammate Brent Cullaton.

"We are very excited about having Chris return to Elmira," said Elmira Jackals/First Arena General Manager Robbie S. Nichols. "He is very fond of this city and he adds to the big, mean presence of our tough defensive core."

At 6'3", 220 lbs Shaw adds more size to a growing defensive unit, which includes Chris Mann and Arturs Kupacs. He returns to Elmira a more mature player with 144 career games played he has 9 points (1 goal, 8 assists) and 471 penalty minutes, as compared to his first stint with the Jackals where he came in with just 22 pro games on his résumé. Shaw scored his only professional goal with the Jackals, he made many fans in Elmira with his energetic style of play and he impressed a former opponent.

"I played against Chris two years ago when he was with the Jackals," said Jackals Head Coach Kris Waltze. "I liked the way he played; he was willing to stand up for his teammates and wouldn't back down to anyone. I think his year away from Elmira was a good fit for him and he comes back with a lot of valuable experience."

After completing their 6th season in franchise history in the UHL, the Jackals are gearing up for Season 7. Season tickets for the 2006-2007 UHL season are on sale now at the First Arena Box Office. For more information call 607-734-PUCK (7825).
