July 11, 2006 - SOUTHAVEN --- Memphis RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin McClelland announced today that the team has re-signed second year forward Sheldon Wenzel for the 2006-2007 season. McClelland also announced that the team has traded the rights to forward Paul Mcbrien to the Lubbock Cotton Kings for future considerations.

“I think Mac (Coach McClelland) is putting together a good team and I am excited for the season,” Wenzel said. “I loved playing there last season. The organization and the fans are great.”

Wenzel (6-1, 220) was originally acquired by the RiverKings in a December 2005 trade with the Austin Ice Bats. In his rookie campaign in 05-06, Wenzel played in 57 games (37 with Memphis), scored three goals (two with Memphis), collected nine assists (six with Memphis) and accumulated 232 penalty minutes (168 with Memphis).

“I hope to chip in a little more offensively this season and continue to make my physical presence felt on the ice, too,” he said.

The Brooks, Alberta native was fourth among rookies in PIM and third in major penalties in 2005-2006.

Mcbrien, also entering his second season, played in 49 games with the RiverKings last season and finished with five goals, five assists and a team-leading 258 penalty minutes.
