July 10, 2006 - SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Memphis RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin McClelland announced today that the team has signed forward Eric Frank for the 2006-2007 season. The team also announced that its 15th anniversary season will begin on home ice at the DeSoto Civic Center on Friday, October 20.
Frank completed a four year career at NCAA Division III University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth this past March. He then signed and made his pro debut with the Phoenix Roadrunners (ECHL) where he played in the final six games of the season.
“I am excited about playing for the RiverKings,” Frank said. “I actually was down there and saw two games a couple of years ago. I got to see the rink and to see how things are run. It seems like a great organization and a great opportunity.”
Frank visited Southaven when former U Mass-Dartmouth teammate and roommate Scott Trahan signed with the RiverKings and played in four games following his senior collegiate season in 2005.
“I have been a speed guy my whole career,” Frank said of his playing style. “I like to move the puck. I was more of a playmaker for most of my playing days, but the last few years I have been able to find the back of net a little more.”
At U Mass-Dartmouth, the 5-foot-11, 185 pound Frank scored 67 goals with 90 assists for a total of 157 points in 92 games. He ranks seventh in points, sixth in assists and ninth in goals on the school’s all-time lists.
His junior season of 2004-2005 was his best as he led all Division III players in points with 59 (24 goals, 35 assists) in 26 games. His 2.27 points per game also led the nation. As a result of his great season, the Waltham, MA native was the ECAC Player of the Year and he also became the first U Mass-Dartmouth player to earn All-American honors.
Frank was also a two-time team Most Valuable Player, and a three-time ECAC and New England Hockey Writers All-Star.
As a senior in 2005-2006, Frank was second on the team and in the conference with 42 points (20 goals and 22 assists) in 28 games. He helped lead the Corsairs to a 25-5 record, the ECAC Northeast Conference title, the Corsairs’ first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III playoffs and a first-round tournament win at SUNY Geneseo.
In his six games at the end of last season with the Roadrunners, Frank did not score and had four PIM.
“It was good to get a taste of pro hockey last season in Phoenix,” Frank said. “I really wasn’t given a chance or much ice time, so I am looking forward to getting this opportunity with the RiverKings.” |
