LUBBOCK, TX: July 31, 2006 – The Lubbock Cotton Kings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) are very excited with the results of the Lubbock City Council’s decision to approve a new lease agreement between the Kings and the City of Lubbock / Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. The decision was made Monday morning during a Special City Council Meeting.
“This is the best lease agreement our organization has ever had with the Coliseum and the agreement is on par with other agreements CHL teams have with their venue,” said Cotton Kings General Manager Todd Chisnell. “This new agreement excites us because it is a step in the right direction. I appreciate everyone that was involved within the negotiations, including Mayor David Miller and City Council members, which shows their dedication in the longevity of the Cotton Kings and the entertainment it provides the fans.”
The renegotiation provides the Kings a one-year lease through the upcoming 2006/2007 season. The details of the lease are in a different format than previous lease agreements and it sets a new tone for future lease agreements, which will continue to benefit the Cotton Kings, the City of Lubbock and their involved offices/organizations. Under the new agreement, the Cotton Kings will continue to call the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum their home under a lighter rental fee than previous seasons, and they will receive some concession percentages for the first time in franchise history. There are various additional items within the lease and exact details of the lease can be found by contacting City of Lubbock offices.
The Kings were highly recognized during the Council Meeting for their contributions to Lubbock and the South Plains. It was announced that over the previous seven seasons, the Cotton Kings have raised over 40-million dollars in economic development, issued over 2-million dollars to Civic Lubbock and have spent 1.3-million dollars into Coliseum improvements. This past year, the Cotton Kings donated over $20,000 worth of charitable contributions into area non-profit organizations, they were named the Volunteer Lubbock “Volunteer Business of the Year” and the CHL named them as a finalist for the “Community Relations Franchise of the Year” honor. Those charitable contributions do not even include the funds raised by two-time CHL “Man of the Year” Paul Fioroni, who has devoted time raising thousands to assist various families and causes. The items mentioned by the City were to recognize the value of the Kings in the Lubbock community and to reveal the importance of a new lease and one that will shape future lease agreements.
These changes help the Cotton Kings organization to operate under a better business model and it allows longevity to benefit the City of Lubbock, the Cotton Kings and their fans/corporate supporters. |
