The Austin Ice Bats of the Central Hockey League today announced that the team will begin the home portion of its upcoming 2006-07 season on Saturday, October 21st at the all-new Chaparral Ice Arena. The remainder of the team’s schedule for the coming CHL season is expected to be released in July.
Meanwhile, renovations have begun at Chaparral Ice Arena, located on I-35 between Howard Lane and Wells Branch Parkway. Construction crews have begun installing permanent seating, which will accommodate close to 2,000 fans. A renovated club area upstairs overlooking the ice, and an expanded concession area downstairs are among the other scheduled improvements.
“It’s exciting to watch our plans come to fruition,” said Ice Bats President Jeff Buch. “Because of the way the seating’s arranged, the fans will be right on top of the action. As renovations continue, it becomes easier to see just how loud, fun and exciting the games will be at our new arena.”
At the current pace, team officials expect renovations could be completed by the end of August or early September, about a month ahead of the anticipated timetable, and well in advance of the team’s scheduled opener.
The Ice Bats will begin their 11th season looking to pick up where they left off. A 34-27-3 record in 2005-06 included a 24-10-1 run over the season’s second half, as the team took their playoff chase into the final day of the season.
Season tickets and corporate partnerships for the ‘06-’07 campaign are currently available, with full-season and half-season ticket plans on sale now. Fans may call the Ice Bats ticket office at (512) 927-PUCK, or log onto the team’s website at www.icebats.com for more information. |

| Moving to Chap is going to really hurt the visiting fans who almost certainly will not be able to get a seat. |
