Bugs get Laredo in home opener
Shreveport Times - Roy Lang III - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs will get a chance for a bit of redemption early in the 2006-07 season. Friday, the team announced its home opener will feature a rematch of the 2006 President's Cup Finals.

The Mudbugs will host the Laredo Bucks on Oct. 26 (Thursday night) at 7:05 p.m. at the CenturyTel Center to begin the home portion of the Mudbugs' 10th anniversary season.

"It's going to be perfect," Mudbugs captain Dan Wildfong said. "It's going to get the excitement up right away. It's a good test for sure. (Laredo coach) Terry (Ruskowski) has good teams and it will give us a chance to measure ourselves right off the hump."

The two cross-conference rivals faced each other in the 2004 and 2006 President's Cup Finals. Last season, the Bucks claimed a 4-1 series win over the Mudbugs and won the Central Hockey League championship in Bossier City on May 6.

The Bucks also took the 2004 Finals with a controversial victory in overtime of Game 7 at the Laredo Entertainment Center.

Bossier-Shreveport has dominated Laredo in regular-season meetings, compiling an 8-3 record since 2002. However, the Bucks own an 8-4 edge on the Mudbugs in postseason contests.

"The coaching is very similar -- both teams run a tight ship," Wildfong said. "Every shift everyone works hard."

The complete 2006-2007 Central Hockey League schedule will be released Monday. The Mudbugs will start the season on the road the weekend of Oct. 20 againist Oklahoma City.
