LUBBOCK, TX: August 7, 2006 – The Central Hockey League released the official 2006-2007 regular season schedule today from their offices in Phoenix, Arizona, with teams scheduled for 32 home games and 32 road games to equal 64 games.
The Lubbock Cotton Kings begin their eighth season Saturday, October 21st at home by hosting the Odessa Jackalopes. Their following game will also serve as their first road game of the season, as they will travel to Round Rock to face the Austin Ice Bats in the Kings first ever trip to the Chaparral Ice Arena.
This season, the Cotton Kings remain positioned in the Southwest Division of the Southern Conference with Amarillo, Arizona, New Mexico and Odessa completing the division. The Cotton Kings play an unbalanced schedule, and of their divisional rivals, the Cotton Kings will faceoff with Amarillo 11 times (6 home, 5 road), Arizona 6 times (3 home, 3 road), New Mexico 8 times (4 home, 4 road) and Odessa 10 times (5 home, 5 road). The Kings will see the newest divisional opponent, the Arizona Sundogs, for a first time on Tuesday, October 31st (Halloween) at 11:05 AM, as part of the annual “Kids Day Game” at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
27 of the 32 Cotton Kings home games will be scheduled on the weekends (Friday, Saturday or Sunday), leaving only five home games on weekdays. The schedule is fairly balanced with homestands and road trips. The longest homestand and road trip of the season is three games, and each will be completed on four separate occasions. The Kings road schedule will see the Kings travel over 21,000 miles this season (2,000 more than last season). They will not make stops in Memphis, Wichita and Youngstown this season, but like their first ever trip to Round Rock, the Kings will make their first ever stops in Prescott Valley, Arizona to face the inaugural Arizona Sundogs, Rio Rancho, New Mexico to face the New Mexico Scorpions (hiatus last season due to new arena development) and Broomfield, Colorado to battle the inaugural Rocky Mountain Rage. Three-in-three weekends (three games in three consecutive nights) are a common theme in minor pro hockey and it will be a theme to the Kings season as the Kings schedule contains 13 (7 consecutive weeks worth) three-in-three sets. Lubbock had a low of seven on their docket last season.
Lubbock will play a 32-home game schedule during the regular season consisting of 2 Tuesday, 3 Thursday, 9 Friday, 13 Saturday, and 5 Sunday games. Memphis will be the lone team not making an appearance at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum this season. The Cotton Kings promotional schedule and pre-season schedule has not been released, and will be released at a later date.
