ugust 3, 2006 - ZERO HOUR
Dillas blank Laredo 4-0 behind three pitchers

LAREDO, TX - Starter Charlie Griffin, reliever Derek Tillman and closer Chris Waters would have their way.

The three Dillas' pitchers gave up only six hits and no runs as the Amarillo Dillas' shutout the Laredo Broncos 4-0 in front 1,203 fans at Veterans
Field in Laredo.

Griffin (6-3) got the win in five innings of work, gave up only three hits and no runs while inking a strikeout. Laredo's Keith Ferguson (0-1) gave up all four of Amarillo's runs and allowed eight hits in the effort.

The Dillas started things off in the third inning. After Jordan Ramos was walked to lead off, he was hit to second by a Ericnardo Padilla sacrifice. Marcus Lewis would step up and hit a slow single to the outfield. Ramos, running the whole way, just beat the throw to the plate to give the Dillas a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth, Ramos would reach base after a leadoff double down the right field line. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, he would come home on another RBI single by Lewis. A Danny Bravo single would put two runners on for Carlos Figueroa. The Amarillo designated hitter doubled to the right field gap to score both runners to give Amarillo a 4-0 lead.

After the fifth, Tillman and Waters would come in, allow three hits, one walk and stuck out seven to end the game and preserve the Dillas' third shutout 4-0.

With the win, Amarillo improves to 33-38 on the season and remains in sole possession of the fourth-and-final playoff spot; a game-and-a-half ahead of Rio Grande Valley, who fell to Alexandria 13-5. On Thursday, the Dillas will finish off the series with the Broncos with game time at 7:35 pm with Dillas Pre-Game set for 7:20 pm on 1440 AM The Score. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout. Following the game, the Dillas will travel down to Harlingen to take on the fifth-place White Wings for a three-game set on Friday.
