| it was a back and forth game at the amarillo national dilla villa saturday night as the amarillo dillas were chasing the laredo broncos for the last spot in the playoffs as they took on the rio grande valley white wings. the game started off like a normal dillas game, lewis would get batted in by padilla and then padilla knocked in by figueroa for a 2-0 dillas lead. but the dillas would then be shocked on the first pitch of the game as antoine gray smashed one over the left field wall making the game 2-1. the dillas would then extend there lead to 3-1 after a carlos mendoza rbi. but the wings would not settle as they knocked another batter in to make in 3-2. but then thats where it went all downhill for the dillas. in the third inning the wings knocked home 5 runs leading the dillas 7-3 for four innings. the dillas would then start coming back as they loaded the bases at perfect timing for carlos figueroa to knock home an rbi triple to make the game 7-6. then john paul davis would knock figueroa in to make in tied, then danny bravo knocked davis around for the 8-7 lead. from there things would get sticky as the wings took a 9-8 lead off of four rio grande valley hitters who would only score two. in the eighth inning the dillas would score to make in 9-9 only to be shocked again as once again antoine gray would be walked to second and then shawn mclain knocked him home to give the wings a 10-9 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. the dillas would get 3 on base from walks in the ninth, and thats when pressure set on the wings pitcher. he then walked home gary schneidmiller tieing the game at 10, at the time it seemed good enough for the dillas. but then the next batter was ericnardo padilla, one of the best hitters for the dillas. padilla would get loaded at full count as the 5000+ crowd was up getting behind the pitcher and he walked padilla giving the dillas the winning run from marcus lewis. the dillas that night slid into the last spot of the playoffs and then won the next night against the wings causing a series sweep. |
