Scorpions announce affiliation agreement with Milwaukee
08/22/06 - Central Hockey League (CHL) New Mexico Scorpions

New Mexico Scorpions
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), are proud to announce the team has reached an affiliation agreement with the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL) and their National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate the Nashville Predators.

The announcement is another step in bringing hockey prominence back to New Mexico. Scorpions' President Dave Ellett and Head Coach Ray Edwards have been working hard over the past months to create this working agreement with the two organizations.

"Obviously, I am very excited about working with both clubs. I have known Milwaukee Head Coach Claude Noel for a long time, and he has been instrumental in my development as a coach," said Edwards. "Hopefully, this will add to the excitement for our players here. Our job is to provide hope for these guys, and this is a great step in starting that process."

As an affiliate of Milwaukee, the Scorpions may receive contracted players on assignment from the AHL club. New Mexico will also have the opportunity to promote free agent players from their roster to the Admirals. Having this agreement will provide some comfort to Milwaukee's head coach Claude Noel.

"This relationship with New Mexico gives us depth and comfort knowing that Ray will do an outstanding job in developing players for the next level," said Noel. "We are very proud to be affiliated with such a positive program and organization."

Edwards is already talking to the Admirals about possible players they may assign to the Scorpions after the Milwaukee training camp concludes. Neither organization would release any names that have been discussed, but Scorpions President Dave Ellett is very pleased with what could transpire.

"The Scorpions organization is very pleased to be associated and working with such quality organizations. Both Nashville and Milwaukee have done a tremendous job of developing their players and lifting their teams to the top of their respective leagues. We hope to aid in their developmental plan moving forward and are very excited about this working relationship."

The Scorpions will christen the new state-of-the-art Santa Ana Star Center on Friday, October 27, when they face the Arizona Sundogs at 7:35 p.m. This season the Scorpions feature 22 weekend home games. The schedule can also be viewed and printed by visiting www.scorpionshockey.com/schedule.
