[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), announced today that Rick Carden has been hired as the new General Manager. Carden replaces Robb King who left the Scorpions to spend more time with his family in Ohio.
The newest addition to the Scorpions front office brings a wealth of experience. Carden has spent the last 15 years working in professional sports, most recently with the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL) as the Director of Hockey Business Operations since 2002, which are a part of Spurs Sports and Entertainment, who also owns the San Antontio Spurs of the NBA.
"Rick brings with him experience and leadership that will greatly help the Scorpions organization," said Scorpions' President Dave Ellett. "He will hit the ground running and continue to build on the great things the existing staff has already done."
Carden is no stranger to the CHL. In 2002 he was named the CHL Executive of the Year when he was the General Manager of the San Antonio Iguanas. Prior to his work in San Antonio, the Texas native was the Assistant General Manager for the Odessa Jackalopes of the old Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL) and the Midland RockHounds baseball club.
During his time in Central Texas Carden helped make his franchises one of the best in their respective leagues. Four times, this father of three daughters, oversaw a Franchise of the Year. Twice with the RockHounds in 1991 and 1996 and two more times in 1997 and 1998 with the Jackalopes.
"I am very excited to be in New Mexico and part of the new building in Rio Rancho," said Carden. "I look forward to an exciting 2006-2007 season as we continue to build success on and off the ice with the Scorpions." |
