Arizona Sundogs Sign Three More Players
08/29/06 - Central Hockey League (CHL) Arizona Sundogs

Arizona Sundogs
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The expansion Central Hockey League Arizona Sundogs, slated to begin their Inaugural Season Oct. 20, have announced three more player signings to their 2006-2007 roster.

Among the players signed are veteran defenseman Chris Bartolone and rookie defensemen Adam Campbell and Jonathan Bernier.

Bartolone, 36, has spent his entire professional career overseas with stops in Italy, Germany, Austria and most recently, Denmark. Prior to turning pro, the veteran defenseman played three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Canada's premier junior hockey league.

"I'm pleased to have signed another quality veteran in Chris Bartolone," Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro said. "With the signing of Chris, we have a solid core foundation of veteran players in which our younger players can look to for the guidance, both on and off the ice, which is necessary in order to advance one's career. He brings a level of experience and talent that we as a team will come to depend on throughout our season."

Rookie defenseman Adam Campbell spent four years at the University of Prince Edward Island before turning pro during the 2004-05 season. In 83 collegiate contests, the 27-year-old Campbell notched 10 goals and 20 assists for 30 points and 316 penalty minutes. In his first 40 games as a pro with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), he tallied 3 goals and 12 assists for 15 points and 78 penalty minutes.

When asked about Campbell, Pietroniro had this to say: "Having spent only one season in professional hockey, Adam still qualifies as a rookie. With that being said, he still possesses the youth and desire to advance his on-ice career but has been in the pros and as a result has a level of experience that many rookies lack when first pursuing their professional careers."

Rookie defenseman Jonathan Bernier comes to the Arizona Sundogs from a family with a rich hockey background. The 22-year-old Quebec native and his two brothers are triplets, all of whom play hockey. Bernier's brother Cedric has signed on with the Florida Seals of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).

"Jonathan is a physical, tough player who can handle himself on the ice," said Pietroniro. "His enthusiasm is nothing short of addictive. Our Club has emphasized a family atmosphere since its inception and Jonathan's character is going to help him to fit in well with our program."
