SteelHounds Sign a Pair of Players
09/06/06 - Central Hockey League (CHL) Youngstown SteelHounds
Youngstown SteelHounds
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds and General Manager Joe Gregory announced today that the team has signed a pair of players for the upcoming 2006-07 season. Signing one-year contracts were defenseman Stephen Margeson and center Brad Patterson.
Margeson, 24, played in 36 games last season for the Memphis RiverKings scoring two goals with three assists and 42 penalty minutes. He missed a large portion of the season due to a broken jaw suffered in a game in late January. The Banff, Alberta native has been a steady defensive presence for RiverKings for each of the past four seasons dressing in 133 games over that span (6-18=24, 167 PIM).
The 6-3, 210-pound blueliner has also seen action in the Central Hockey League (CHL) with the New Mexico Scorpions dressing in 24 games during the 2002-03 season and recording nine assists. While with the Scorpions, Margeson was a teammate of current Hound Chris Richards and was traded during the season to Memphis in exchange for current Hound Jeff Alcombrack.
Patterson, 25, has played 121 career CHL games seeing action with Colorado, Wichita and New Mexico. His CHL totals include 20 goals 44 assists and 85 penalty minutes. His best season came during the 2003-04 campaign with the Colorado Eagles where he finished with 38 points (15-23=38). In 17 career CHL playoff games, the Cranbrook, British Columbia native has scored three goals with two helpers.
The 5-10, 170-pound forward played for the Nottingham Panthers in Great Brittan (EIHL) scoring seven goals with 14 assists. The gritty competitor played his amateur hockey at Michigan Tech dressing in 143 career games over four seasons scoring 14 goals with 47 assists.
"These two players add great experience and depth to our roster," said Gregory. "Both have the knack for doing many of the little things that go along with a winning hockey team especially using their ability in their own zone." |
