GORILLAS ANNOUNCE 3 MORE SIGNINGS - Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at 16:58
AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced three more player signings today to bring their tryout camp total to 21. Gorilla fans will immediately recognize the name of Philippe Choiniere as he returns to Amarillo for his second stint as a Gorilla. The Durham, Quebec native tallied 7 goals and 10 assists in 36 games as a Gorilla during the 2004-05 season.

“Philippe is an experienced player with a ton of character and natural leadership abilities,” Gorillas Head Coach Jim Wiley said. “He’s a strong skater and is willing to battle and scrum for loose pucks along the walls.”

The 6-1, 200 pound right winger was signed by the Gorillas in late December 2004 and finished the 2004-05 campaign in Amarillo before spending last season playing in France where he totaled 16 points in just 26 games.

The Gorillas also came to terms today with defenseman John Glavota out of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Glavota spent last season in the United Hockey League (UHL) as he split time between the Flint Generals and the Port Huron Flags. In 70 games last season, the 6-1, 205 pound defenseman tallied 2 goals and 15 assists while racking up 107 minutes in penalties.

“John is your prototypical defensive defenseman,” Wiley said. “He’s another experienced guy who moves the puck extremely well and who will bring a steadiness to our roster from game to game.

The Gorillas have also signed defenseman Greg Snitowsky to a tryout contract for the upcoming training camp. Snitowsky played just 14 games for the Port Huron Flags of the UHL last year and did not register a point. He will be brought in during training camp in early October and will have a chance then to make the Gorillas final roster.

“Greg is a highly motivated young man,” Wiley said. “He’s a strong kid who’s just looking for an opportunity to crack into the “AA” professional level of play.”
