11/10/06 - Four unanswered goals helped lift the Lubbock Cotton Kings past the Amarillo Gorillas for a 6-1 victory Friday night at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. The win is the fifth of the year (5-3-0, 10 pts.) for the Hub City squad, and moves them into first place of the Southwest Division.

Lubbock, Texas – Four unanswered goals helped lift the Lubbock Cotton Kings past the Amarillo Gorillas for a 6-1 victory Friday night at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. The win is the fifth of the year (5-3-0, 10 pts.) for the Hub City squad, and moves them into first place of the Southwest Division.
Kyle Nosan fed Trevor Weisgerber at the doorstep of the crease allowing Weisgerber to fire home the first goal of the game at 4:08 on the man-advantage. Simon Watson collect a power play goal of his own at 18:06 to make it a 2-0 contest going into the first intermission. Both tallies were the fifth goal and tenth point of the season for Weisgerber and Watson.
Lubbock killed off key penalty minutes in the second period including a stretch of two minutes spent entirely in their defensive zone and down two players. Cotton Kings goaltender Kyle Stanton made 17 saves in the frame. Amarillo scored their lone goal of the night at the 13:10 mark on the man-advantage from Bill Vandermeer. The Cotton Kings would continue to light the lamp with scores from Watson and Jimmy Callahan at the 16:06 and 19:02 marks to make it a 4-1 game.
Callahan collected his second goal of the night and fifth of the season at 8:44 of the third period. It is his second multiple-goal game of the season (seventh time in his career). At 12:16 Chris Barth fired a shot from between the hash marks to score his first professional goal making it a 6-1 contest. Barth, who was activated off the IR prior to the game, was playing his first professional game.
Stanton earned his fourth win of the year as he stopped 36 of 37 Amarillo shots on net. Jamie Vandespyker had the loss in net with 36 saves off of 42 Lubbock shots.
The Cotton Kings’ next game will be Saturday night at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum for a first-ever meeting with the expansion Rocky Mountain Rage. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m with special guest Sgt. Slaughter
