Wildfong Returns for 8th Season

The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today announced the re-signing of team captain Dan Wildfong for the 2006-2007 season, which will be his eighth year with the franchise. Wildfong is the Mudbugs' all-time leader in goals, assists, points, and penalty minutes and will become the first player in team history to play in eight Mudbugs seasons.

The Clinton, Ontario native first arrived with the Mudbugs for the 1999-2000 campaign and was a key member of two President's Cup championship squads in his first two seasons. He has scored at least 20 goals in six of his seven seasons with the Mudbugs and has recorded at least 200 penalty minutes in five seasons. Last year, he was named the Mudbugs' team captain and notched 62 points (23 goals and 39 assists) with 272 penalty minutes in 60 games. In addition, he was voted the CHL's "Best Leader" in the 2005 and 2006 Best of the Best polls. Wildfong was also selected as a finalist for the CHL Most Valuable Player award for the second straight season.

"There is no question that Dan is a cornerstone of our organization both on and off the ice," said Mudbugs Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "This past season as team captain he also showed us that he is one of the best leaders in Mudbugs history, which is saying a lot. It's very fitting that we have him returning to our team for such a special season with our tenth anniversary."

In addition to his accomplishments on the ice, the 30-year-old Wildfong has been one of the Mudbugs' all-time leaders in community service and has been an integral part in the development of youth hockey in the Bossier-Shreveport area.

"It's an honor to be back," said Wildfong. "I think it's nice to be in a situation where you can play for eight years with one team and I've been treated so well in Bossier-Shreveport from 'day one'. From the community to the ownership, they have been so great to me so coming back is truly an honor and a privilege."

Wildfong, a two-time all-star, joins defenseman Konrad Brand as the first two members of the 2006-2007 Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs roster. The team captain is also the first veteran (280 professional games played or more) to be signed by the Mudbugs. CHL rules state that teams may only carry four veteran players on their rosters.

wow just this past season i was sooo excited when we were going to play yall and then laredo. but i got sick at the start of the week and had to miss the game against yall, then the next time i had to go out of town so i missed two exciting contests. it would be a really good series if us two went at it
