The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Joe Ferras has accepted an Assistant Coaching position with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Sound Tigers, who are the AAA affiliate of the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League, play their home games at The Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Gorillas General Manager Darren McLean says of the move, “We are extremely excited for Joe and his family. This is what the hockey business is all about. Joe has had five successful seasons here in Amarillo and we are very proud to say that he was our Head Coach. We wish Joe nothing but success and cannot thank him enough for his contributions to our organization as well as our community!”
The Gorillas will be holding a press conference on Friday, July 21st at 11:00 am. The Gorillas office is located at 1934 Civic Circle in the Wolflin Square Shopping Center. Joe Ferras and Gorillas General Manager Darren McLean will be on hand to answer questions. All fans and media are encouraged to attend.
It's good to see him moving up the ladder, and he'll be missed here. There was talk on the news tonight that one of the old Rattler coaches may step up and take his place. No idea where that might stand.

| Wow! Did that come out of the blue or did you guys know this was going on? Are they announcing the coach on Friday or have they not started looking, yet? |

no..no no no..
this is not good for this team, joe ran this team awesome, he needs to be a head coach not an assistant. i although am glad hes moving up the ladder but for one i dont want a rattlers coach. if anyone hasnt realized this, the rattlers sucked. we played league cupcake team every single season and rode the division cellar. we need a sharp coach whos new or has alot of experience, not a rattler coach.
