BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League added three players to their roster for the 2006-2007 season. The team re-signed veteran Chris Brassard while acquiring two new players Ryan Fairbarn and Robbie Sutherland.
Brassard, 31, returns for his fifth season with the Mudbugs. He played in 62 games last season while amassing his second best point total in eight seasons as a pro with 60. Brassard proved to be an outstanding playoff contributor in last year's chase for the President's Cup. He notched five goals and seven assists in 15 post season games.
"The contribution Chris has made to our team over the past four years has been invaluable," said Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "He's earned the role as an assistant captain with his leadership qualities. He possesses one of the best shots in the league, which is also a reason why were excited to have him back this year."
Fairbarn, a second-year pro, joins the Mudbugs after two seasons with Wichita and Fort Worth of the CHL. The 26-year-old player finished last season with 29 points and 58 penalty minutes. Fairbarn is a native of Bradford, Ontario. Fairbarn is an experienced defenseman that excels on both the power play and penalty kill.
"Ryan's game features great feet and skating ability. He should contribute significantly to our special teams," said Muscutt.
The Mudbugs also add youth up front with the signing of Robbie Sutherland. He enters his rookie season after four years at Acadia University. The 24-year-old player has a great deal of playing experience in the junior and college ranks. He spent two seasons with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (1998-2000) and the Halifax Mooseheads (1999 -2002) before joining the roster at Acadia. Sutherland is rated as one of the top prospects in the CIS.
The signing of these three players brings the total to eight for the Mudbugs this off season. Brassard, Fairbarn and Sutherland are the latest addition to a strong core of veteran players including forward Dan Wildfong and goaltender Ken Carroll. |
